ABOUT
Smith Williams Garage slowly took shape after years of trying to balance making a living with making space for my creative practice.
I hold a BFA (Hons) from the University of Manitoba and an MA in Fine Art from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, UK. After graduating, my practice went quiet for a time as I tried to navigate work, survival, and making things fit together in a more “practical” way. Eventually, I built a studio in my garage and began again from there.
My work lives primarily in ceramics, drawing from nature, creatures, and the slightly off-kilter corners of being human. I’m interested in humour, tension, and the space between something being functional and something feeling a little alive in your hands. Alongside ceramics, my practice is slowly expanding into metalsmithing, leather work, and sewing. I’m still learning how to let things coexist without forcing them into a single identity.
Each piece is made by hand in my studio, where I move between playful, functional forms and more exploratory sculptural work.
At home, I live with my partner Greg, my dog Charlie, and my cat Gracie, who collectively keep the place warm, hairy, and alive.
When I’m not in the studio, I’m usually cooking, or thinking about what to make next.
